Building Better Philanthropists

Started in 2002 by a group of like­minded leaders, Social Venture Partners
Rhode Island (SVPRI) is a growing partnership of engaged philanthropists
who are committed to community service but who desire to use their
money and skills in hands­on, engaged activities. Our goal? To help area
non­profit organizations build and scale job ­ and revenue­producing
enterprises. With diverse backgrounds, including law, finance, technology,
marketing and business development, our partners use their for­profit
skills to build social entrepreneurship and social enterprise. And, they
seek to provide more value than board membership or fundraising
assistance alone. In fact, they seek to stimulate long­lasting and systemic
social change.

Who We Help

We help the people who spend their careers helping others. When a
non­profit organization starts to build ­ or scale ­ a social enterprise, we
provide advice, structure and support to help it succeed. We can also
provide funding, either directly, through seed loans, or indirectly, through
connections to several grant­making organizations. Perhaps most
importantly, we use our extensive network to include additional
professionals who provide special skills or connections so that together,
we can accelerate the non­profit’s plans and success. We’ve helped
many of Rhode Island’s non­profits, and many more have approached us
for assistance.
